Wikia, the fandom-focused cousin of Wikipedia, will now benefit from a licensing partnership with Sony to put its pages of content into entertainment apps. The partnership, announced on Wednesday morning, will integrate content from two-thirds of its 400,000 community-focused fan sites into two Sony apps, TV SideView and Socialife News.
In addition to featuring content within the apps, Sony’s deal is directly connected to Wikia’s API. That means that the information found within the apps — such as the detailed backstory of Mad Men’s Don Draper — will update dynamically with user input, just like the pages found on desktop and mobile. Additionally, Wikia will release new “hub pages” to help better categorize and organize the many fan pages available on the site.
